Certainly the times of the clunky and static cable set-top boxes is over, with interactive IP delivery coming to quite a historic field of broadcast technology.
Comcast published a video showcasing their development team behind the X2 set-top box.
With the constant evolution of over-to-top devices, Apple TV, Xbox One, or Roku, to mention a few, the cable box is not the only way to get video to HD screens. The premium value of cable content should be inline with a premium user experience, which is slowly becoming a reality.
It will be interesting to see what is next.
